Joe's Bob Graham Round

At 3am on Saturday 17th July 2021, our Gateshead Lead Coach, Joe started his attempt of the Bob Graham Round! ⛰ 🏃

Starting and finishing in Keswick, Cumbria the run is a total of 106km, scaling 42 of the Lake District’s highest peaks with a total elevation gain of 8,200m.

To succeed you have to complete in 24 hours. Not only that, he wanted to raise money for Recovery Connections while he did it.

Did he do it? Joe has something he'd like to say here...

Well, I did it.. clung on and got round in 23 hours and 37 minutes.  I am currently a physical, mental, and emotional wreck but the feeling of achievement, and gratitude to everyone who helped is immense.

It was hanging in the balance at several points when I had some real dips.  My lower back went on leg 2 then after that, it kept going into spasm now and the and I just couldn’t move!  Then for the final two legs, I couldn’t eat or drink or anything as I was just vomiting up anything that touched my stomach.

I suffered unbelievably and it’s 100% because of my recovery that I could find the mental strength to keep going.

No matter how hard things get for you, you can keep moving forward and get to the line. Dream big dreams. Wear little shorts. ❤️

A HUGE well done to you Joe from the entire Recovery Connections team - we're so proud of you!
