Overdose Awareness Day 2020

International Overdose Awareness Day is a global day that is on 31st August every year. It aims to raise awareness of overdose and reduce the stigma around drug-related death.

It is also important on this day to acknowledge the impact felt by family and friends whose loved ones have died or are permanently injured by a drug overdose.

This year, each of our teams across the North East will be commemorating the day through a socially distanced group activity. For example, the teams in Middlesbrough and Stockton will be planting flowers and trees in remembrance.

Last year in the UK over 4,000 people died of a drug overdose - that’s an average of 76 per week. International Overdose Awareness Day spreads the message that overdose death is preventable.
